about

Dorel Shanon, Principal of Dorel Shanon Coaching & Consulting, has partnered with social impact organizations for over 30 years to develop strong leaders, effective teams, and thriving organizations that achieve their highest purpose.

I’m passionate about supporting social impact organizations to bring their collective wisdom, creativity, and strategic thinking to their desired futures. I do this by partnering with my clients to facilitate conversations and processes that are generative, appreciative, and crucial for igniting self-reflection, learning, and action.

Individuals, teams, and organizations are most effective when they build upon their strengths and successes. I support my clients in tapping those strengths in every engagement, from developing and supporting leaders to helping teams realize their potential to guiding organizations to envision and bring to life vibrant and successful futures.

My experience is grounded in my years as a frontline staff member, manager, senior executive, and Board member. As a former Vice President for Professional Development and Education for Planned Parenthood Southeastern PA I helped lead local, regional, and national initiatives to strengthen the organization’s impact and reach.

My history of serving on and leading several Boards of Directors provided me with practical experience along with a theoretical foundation in Board practices.

As a former English major, long-time potter, and occasional poet, I weave art, poetry, and other forms of creative expression into my work with clients.

I’m incredibly fortunate to partner with a group of talented and highly skilled colleagues from various disciplines, who collectively bring a depth and range of expertise and experience to Dorel Shanon Coaching & Consulting.

Doing the work of organizational development and coaching requires a passion for lifelong learning and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth and development. Here are some of the ways I’ve exercised that passion:

  • Masters in Organization Development and Leadership, Fielding Graduate University

  • Professional Coach Certification, International Coach Federation

  • Leadership Coach Accreditation, Institute for Transformational Leadership, Georgetown University

  • Group Coach Certification, Verve Coaching

  • Advanced Practitioner, Team Coach Certification, Global Team Coaching Institute

  • Leadership Circle Coaching 360 Assessment Certification

  • Non-Profit Board Education, BoardSource, Certification

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree, English Literature, University of Pennsylvania, magna cum laude

In addition I’ve had extensive training in Appreciative Inquiry and other strengths-based approaches to coaching and organization development.

“Working with Dorel has been hugely helpful in developing my leadership and problem solving skills. Dorel has helped me think about my job and responsibilities in new and important ways.
